Ted Danson’s Best Electric Toasters Of 2017 was released in time for Christmas of that same year, and, as the title suggests, TV legend Ted Danson made his way through the year’s best toasters from number 50 all the way down to what he deemed to be the best of the year.
The book was met with some surprise when it was released as not only is it a strange topic to write a book on but also that Danson had, up to that point, shown little interest in the bread-warming appliances.
Due to its extremely narrow niche, the book struggled to sell many copies, with some estimates putting the total at around 56 copies.

Join Ted Danson, the huge American star from the TV situation comedies Friends and Fraser, on an electrifying and dazzling journey through his favourite electric toasters of 2017. This 350-page book is packed to the brim with Ted’s favourite bread-warming appliances from a year that changed the face of toasters.
From the Tefal M290 Model right the way through to the Black+Decker 2-Slice Extra-Wide Slot Toaster and taking in the wonder that is the KitchenAid 4-Slice Toaster with Manual High-Lift Lever, Danson’s passion and knowledge shines through.
Wonder in awe at Danson’s knowledge of the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster and cry tears of joy at his passion for Cuisinart Classic 2-Slice Toaster and all its little idiosyncrasies that make it the toast lover’s toaster.
Ted’s love for electric bread cookers shines through to the point where you think he may have been intimate with several, but he also comes with a warning. With A.I. on the rise, encroaching into every corner of our lives, Ted muses on the likelihood that computers will take over the warming of yeast-based foods, resulting in us losing the mutual respect between toasters and humans.

For those new to toasters, allow me, in simple terms, to describe what they are. A toaster is an electrical appliance designed to toast frozen, cold, or even room-temperature bread slices by employing a process called ‘radiant heating’. Cool, huh?
It consists of several vital components that work together to achieve the desired toasty outcome. That’s just great, uh?
When you insert bread slices into the toaster’s evenly and carefully designed slots and initiate the toasting process, an electrical circuit is completed, and electric current flows through the heating element. The toasting process involves a combination of conduction, convection, and radiation. Very groovy, uh?
The toaster is equipped with a lever or button mechanism (wow, uh?) that lowers the bread into the slots and activates the toasting cycle (Incredible, uh?). This mechanism also includes a spring that allows the bread to pop up when the toasting process is complete.
So, as you can see, much like my ex-wife, Whoopi Goldberg, toasters and the toasting process are somewhat complicated yet simple.
Much like your first love or the first time you killed a pet in cold blood, I remember my first toaster as if it were yesterday. But interestingly, it wasn’t yesterday; in fact, it was when I was 10 years old (Great, uh?).
One day, my father came home with an ordinary-shaped box with the words General Electric Toaster written on its side in bright red. I remember my mother weeping tears of joy as the entire house began to fill with the warm scent of slightly burned bread.
We were the first family in our neighborhood to have an electric toaster, and people from all around would come and watch bread being warmed up (So cool, uh?). It was hard not to fall in love with the process, and it is a love that has lasted to this day and led to the book you are reading. Fucking hell, I love toast! (Wow, huh?!)
